Facebook lesson 14, Chatting and videocall

Chatting on Facebook

You can have a conversation with your friends that are currently online.

On your "Home" page you can see your friends who are available for chat on this time on the left side of the screen.
Click on the person you want to chat with and a chatwindow will open at the bottomright of the screen.
You will see that also your previous messages are displayed here.
Type your chatmessage in the empty field and push "enter" to send it.

Click on the name of your friend to close the chatwindow and you will still be able to see the name(s) of the person(s) you are chatting with.
A green circle next to the name means that person is online.

When you click on "Chat" you can see the full list of your friends, you can even send messages to people who are not online.

When you do want to be logged in to Facebook but dont want to chat with anyone you can put your profile offline to others and this is done by clicking on the cogwheel icon in the chatbox.
Then you will uncheck "Available to chat" and your friends will see you as offline.
You can also disable the sounds of incoming chat sounds and in "Limit availability" you can when you have made friend lists, select which friend list can see you as online.

Starting a videocall on Facebook

You can start a videocall with a friend but for this you need to have a webcam though.
Like you have seen in the chatwindow before you also saw a camera icon on top of the chatwindow.
Before you can start your first videocall you need to install the software on your computer.
Just follow the installation instructions which are pretty much straightforward.

When you are done your friend will be automaticly be invited to start a videocall.
You will see the screen below that you are calling your friend.
When he/she accepts your videocall it will start immediatly.
