Firefox lesson 16, Security

Part 1

For this lesson lets open the "Options" window. If you have followed my lessons you should know how to do this now but for those with a short time memory i will explain it. Click "Tools" in the menubar and then click "Options" in the dropdown menu.

As you can see the "Security" tab is divided into two parts.
Let me start with the first part (1).
The first option in the first part "Warn me when sites try to install add-ons" will warn you when a certain site will try to install a add-on without consulting you. Firefox will then ask you to confirm this installation.
Quick tip : Leave this option activated.
The second option in the fist part "Block reported attack sites" is for firefox to check if a website that you are visiting attempts to send your personal data to uncertified partys or tries to distrupt your normal computer functions.

Quick tip : Also leave this option activated.
The third option in the first part "Block reported web forgeries" is for firefox to check if the website which you are visiting attempts to misguide you to give personal information. The term for this is Phishing.
Quick tip : Also leave this option activated.
By clicking on "Exeptions" you can allow certain websites to use these functions even when they are activated.

Part 2

The first option in the second part "Remember passwords for sites" will make firefox remember passwords you filled into forms safely to make signing in to these websites more easy in your next visits.
If you don't like firefox to remember your passwords just deactivate this function... Its not a tip i leave the choice to yourself.

The second option in the second part "Use a master password" is for firefox to protect delicate information and passwords through a master password.
When you make a master password every time that firefox will start it will ask you first to enter the master password the first time i needs access to information or a saved password. You can set, change or remove the master password by deactivating this option or to click the button "Change master password".
When a master password is allready active you will need to enter it first before you can alter or remove the old master password.
Not a tip i leave the choice in using a master password to you... Only dont forget it !
