Windows Live Movie Maker lesson 7, Adding text

Add title

When we use a theme, automaticly a thumbnail with text will be added.
But its possible to do this manually too of course.
Place the time indicator infront of the first thumbnail, or infront of another thumbnail where you want to put text infront, and click on the "Add title" button (1) which can be found when you press the "Home" tab.

This will place a thumbnail with a black background infront of the selected thumbnail (1).
In this thumbnail we will find a textfield where we can enter our text, or in this case a title.
Double click on the textfield and enter your text.
You can change the position of the textfield by moving the cursor over the border till it changes into a fourpointing arrow and then click and drag it to the postion you want (2).
You can change the size of the textfield by clicking and dragging the squares at the edge of a textfield (3).

When a text thumbnail and the "Format" tab in the menubar is selected we can find a few options in the workbar which we can use to format our text (4).
What these functions do is pretty obvious.

On the right in the "Adjust" section (5), we can find the "Edit text" button which we can use to select our text.
Next to that is the "Background color" option which can be used to change the background color of the text thumbnail.
And there are the "Start time" and "Text duration" fields.
In the first we set the starting time for when the text needs to appear.
So if you want the text to appear after two seconds you fill in 2 here.
And in the "Text duration" field we set the duration of the text thumbnail.

And the last is the "Effects" section (6) where we can add a effect to the text thumbnail.
Here we also see a downpointing arrow where mulitple effects can be found.
And to be honest, some of them are really nice.

To add a effect, you click on the effect of your choice.
To remove a effect, you click on the downpointing arrow and choose "None" as a effect.

Quick note:
You can add as many text thumbnails as you want.

Add caption

A second way to add text to our movie is by using the "Caption" button (1).

When yu click on this button this will place a textfield in the thumbnail (2).
For this type of text you have the same options as for the title type.
The only difference is that for a title a new thumbnail will be made, while for the caption the text will be placed inside the thumbnail.
When text is applied to a thumbnail this will be mentioned beneath the thumbnail in the storyboard (3).

You can move this text anywhere in your movie by clicking and dragging the text beneath the thumbnail to any location in the storyboard.
Its even possible to copy and paste beneath another thumbnail.
To do this select the text beneath a thumbnail and push "Ctrl" + "C" on your keyboard.
Then select the thumbnail where you want to paste the text and push "Ctrl" + "V" on your keyboard.
The only thing you need to do now is to change the text, the formatting and effects will be copied.

Add credits

And finaly we have the credits for our movie.
When you click on this button a dropdown menu will open with four options.
These are all the same, only the title above the text will change.

All options in the workbar for the credits are equal to the previous text types so i won't repeat them here.

Make sure though that when you add a effect to the credits the "Text duration" is long enough to show all the text.
