Word lesson 4, Spelling and grammar

Spelling and grammar check

Word makes sure that spelling and grammar checks are done automaticly when typing.
Possible spelling mistakes are indicated with a red waving line and possible grammar mistakes are indicated with a green waving line underneath the word.
These waving lines will not be printed.
This is set by default when we start Word.

microsoft word spelling check
When we rightclick on a waving underlined word and choose for "Spelling and grammar" check, then Word will show us a new window with according to Word the mistyped word or words.

In this window we have a choice, "Ignore once", "Ignore all" or "Add to dictionary".
If we choose "Ignore once" then Word will accept this mistake once in the document.
If we choose to "Ignore all" then Word will allways accept this mistake in the document.
If we choose to "Add to dictionary" then Word will place this word in its dictionary and will not show this mistake anymore.
This is usefull when you are using a companyname for example.
When we type our companyname its likely that Word won't find this word in its dictionary and will allways show this as a mistake, but when we add this word to the dictionary it will be recognised and not be shown as a mistake.

Spelling and grammar options

In the optionwindow for spelling and grammar we can change alot of settings in the way we want it to.

When we change the settings here we click on the button "Recheck document".
The document will be checked once more.

Change autocorrect options

Everyone will once in a while mistype a word.
But some of us will type a word wrong often, especially if we need to type quickly.
Word has a sollution for this, namely "Autocorrect".
With Autocorrect we can correct mistypes, grammar mistakes and misuse of capitol letters.

If for example we type "agread" in stead of "agreed", then we can choose to let Autocorrect correct this spelling mistake automaticly.
Or for example when we type "they al agreed to sign the pappers" we can let this be corrected to "they all agreed to sign the papers.

We can also use Autocorrect to add symbols.
For example when we type (r) the ® symbol is added.

autocorrect options
We can also add and remove autocorrect fragments ourself.
To add this we type the word which we want to replace in the field "Replace" and the symbol which we want to replace it with in the field "With".
And click the "Add" button.

And for Windows 2000 and 97 we click on "Tools" followed by "Autocorrect.." in the menubar.
